Common Good in partnership with Madaraka Festival presents ONE NIGHT ONE MIC — A Bellevue Cultural Awakening through Music & Art.

Join us Saturday, March 9th at Bellevue Youth Theatre (16051 NE 10th St, Bellevue) from 5:30pm - 7:30pm (doors open at 5pm) for a free, all-ages community music event highlighting local BIPOC artists and change makers.

ONE NIGHT ONE MIC is a one-of-a-kind multicultural open mic night & jam sesh that brings together some of the best local BIPOC artists and musicians in an intimate, unplugged setting. The evening will consist of several featured headlining artists, emcees, live DJ’s, and talent from the community who want to showcase their art.

This first edition will also highlight and honor several notable women community leaders of color in celebration of Women’s History Month and will feature catering from Chop Chop West African Cuisine who will be providing small bites and appetizers for the event.

While this is a free community-wide event, seating is limited and food will be available on a first come first serve basis, so make sure to register below to secure your spot.

As this is an OPEN MIC format, if you are a local artist that would like to perform at ONE NIGHT ONE MIC, you will need to sign up no later than Sunday, February 25th. When reserving your spot with the link above, please indicate that you are interested in performing when registering. While we cannot guarantee that we will have space for everyone, we will do our best to accommodate you in our show and one of our producers will followup with you to coordinate.

Jayza Duhon

Singer/Songwriter | @jayzaduhon

Jayza Duhon is a young, incredibly talented and soulful singer and songwriter from the Pacific Northwest. While classically trained, Jayza is extremely versatile fusing R&B, jazz, country and neo soul sounds. She recently performed in London with Sofar Sounds.

Royce Lovett

Singer/Songwriter | @roycelovett

Royce Lovett is a soul, R&B and hip-hop artist from Tallahassee, Florida. He was in Team Gwen on NBC’s The Voice Season 17. Groomed his lyrical skills for years as an underground emcee...growing from influences like Bob Marley, Mos Def and the Motown greats. Lovett has been sharpening his genre bending style since beginning his career over a decade ago. Throughout that time, he independently toured the globe and performed alongside the likes of Wale, Vince Staples, George Clinton P-Funk, and more. Lovett released a series of independent albums and after signing to a major, released two EPs. He stirred up a genuine & authentic style steeped in hip-hop, soul, and rock guitar, receiving acclaim from BET, Jet Magazine, and more.

DJ Afreesha

DJ/Producer | @afreeshacreative

Seattle born multicultural experience curator DJ Afreesha showcases the art in a fusion of music mixing skills rooted in African, Latin American, Caribbean, and popular Black U.S. genres through radio station playlist selection, professional DJ workshop instruction at educational institutions, and local celebratory events. She has played around Seattle at notable places such as the University of Washington, Seattle Caribbean Seafest, Seattle Public Schools, SPACE 101.1 FM Magnuson Park, Nectar Lounge, Umojafest and more.

Simon Okelo

Founder, Madarak Festival | @okelojavan

Simon Javan Okelo grew up in the slums of Manyatta in Kisumu, Kenya, serving as the Field Director of Solace International and Co-Director of the Young Generation Centre where he directed humanitarian projects in Malawi, Kenya, Ghana, Liberia, and South Sudan. Simon is also a DJ and producer, organizing Unite The People concerts in 2008 in the wake of post-election violence and founding One Vibe Africa. Now living in Seattle, Simon organizes events and digital campaigns celebrating the African diaspora locally and globally, producing the largest African music festival in the United States, Madaraka Festival headlined by artists such as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Sauti Sol, Blitz The Ambassador, Rocky Dawuni, Meklit Hadero, Nik West, Naomi Wachira, Karun, and other renowned Grammy award-winning artists.
